A wonderful year.....

Who's that tall guy in the studio???

Now that our holiday shows have drawn to an end, you might think things are slowing down for us; but that's not the case!  its December 21st, the kiln is firing and the shelves in the studio are lined with things to be fired!  Cleve leaves for Miami in just a few weeks then onward to Virginia Beach, its an exciting time!

We receive quite a few questions on how our slab pots are formed and why we can't make two exactly the same, so I thought I'd take a moment to explain.  Cleve starts by forming a slab of clay, either by hand or with the slab roller, these slabs are than placed over one of many round rocks  (see the photo below!) that we have collected over the years.  Each slab is different, the way it is placed on the stone is different, the orientation of the stone on the table, also different  - so, no two are alike!

These planters are simple and wonderful additions for your home, porch or garden.  Plant them up with paper white bulbs in the for a breath of spring during the cold winter months.  In the summer, add a bit of gravel to the bottom and fill with water to provide a refreshing drink for the birds.

We hope this update finds you healthy, happy and enjoying the holiday season with family and friends.  As we look ahead towards 2018 we hope for peaceful & prosperous days to come, for everyone.  Many thanks to all of our wonderful customers - we couldn't have completed this first year together without all of you!

Cheers!

Holiday Favorites

There are 700 paperwhite bulbs on their way from Holland (Netherlands, not Michigan) rows of pots on drying racks and stacks of saucers being trimmed (as you can see in the video below)......these things can only lead to one thing - Puddingstone Paperwhite kits - yes it's almost that time of year again!

With Josh heading up the bulk of the production work in the glass studio, I'm (Josie) creating Kokedama and keeping busy with the technical aspects of Puddingstone (website, orders and schedules) Cleve has been able to hit the ground running in the clay studio!

We hope this blog post finds you healthy and well.

Keeping it simple

One of our big goals around the Puddingstone studios is to keep things simple and uncomplicated.

We ran over to Cleve's today to drop off a few supplies we picked up at the hardware store and we were surprised by the work he'd accomplished in the garden.  He finally got a few heirloom tomatoes in the ground (Because summer won't be complete without a healthy Black Krim tomato plant growing in the garden!) and a little tripod/trellis system made from the Catalpa tree's he pulled out of the ground and capped with terra-cotta finials and garden buddies.

These simple garden pieces are drying on the studio shelves to be fired in the coming days and will be going out to our upcoming shows in Wooster Ohio, Traverse City Michigan and Newport Rhode Island; just to name a few.

Enjoy your weekend!

June 2017 - We have a weekend off!

It's not very often where we schedule a weekend off from work, but that's just what we've done for this coming weekend.  This gives Cleve a good long stretch of time in the clay studio to work on building up a stock of terracotta AND to try a few new ideas (check out the photo's in this post!).

The Shelves are filling up with pinch pots, slab pots, toad-houses and more.  Cleve is trying out a new orb shaped planter with a small opening that I'm particularly excited about.
